Good column, Joe! In a conversation with my bestie, who lives in San Francisco, right after Trump called in the National Guard, I asked her, "Do you get this? I mean, I get the ICE thing — round up all the nonwhite people and put them in cages — but what's this about?" And my bestie said, "Honey, this is about exactly the same thing."
Thanks for taking note, Joanie. It's a bit of a mystery as to what it's all about, it seems to me. But Trump seems bent on using force -- perhaps because it thrills him in some man-with-small-hands way to do so -- in some sort of bid to restore a white-dominated 1950s complacent and compliant America. That means suppressing dissent, rewriting history and overhauling critical education. Still, the endgame seems hard to see and Trump seems bound to Project 2025's murky visions.
