Yes, many do regret their vote. But, again, this reasoning frames Palestinians as helpless and without agency.

I believe they are cowed by Hamas or, as Israeli President Herzog has suggested, they would have overthrown the outfit. Indeed, I've wondered whether the cutoff of electricity and water was aimed at provoking an uprising. Great piece Joe. And what are we make of Gaza Palestinian “agency” in all of this? Have they no agency and no responsibility at all. After all, Hamas was elected, not imposed, and their antisemitic writings was there for all Palestinians to see.

Bruce, thx for taking note. While Palestinians voted in Hamas in 2006, the outfit has not permitted an election since. I presume Gazans knew what they were getting, though many have since regretted their choice. See https://www.washingtoninstitute.org/policy-analysis/polls-show-majority-gazans-were-against-breaking-ceasefire-hamas-and-hezbollah. It's a sorry, sorry situation, and just how Israel will defeat Hamas militarily seems unclear.
